Steve Bates
Outdoor Education Instructor
I stepped into the outdoor instructor world in 1989 as a Unit Expedition leader & as a Top rope climbing & Abseil instructor then progressed to do my Rock leader, Winter climbing & winter mountaineering courses, all while serving in the military. I was fortunate to have travelled across the globe as an instructor and as a team member on climbing and walking expeditions.
During the transition period between military and civilian life, I transferred both my walking and climbing qualifications into the civilian equivalent and gained further qualifications.
Since 2011 I’ve been working as a freelance instructor which given me the opportunity to share my passion for the outdoors to a wide range of people, work with some amazing instructors and the freedom to broaden my experiences, knowledge and progress through various awards.
When not at work, the chances are you will find me somewhere in the UK either walking, climbing or exploring underground!
